The most appealing monument worth to visit, it actually name is Santa Maria Assunta’s cathedral. It was built between 1159 and 1200 and its construction is strongly related to San Nicola Pellegrino, because his relics are preserved in the Cathedral’s crypt. The Cathedral is made with the typical Trani stone: the city is precisely known for its caves where it is located a particular pinkish stone called tufo calcareo. The most beautiful aspect of the Cathedral is its ubication: it is situated on a square which overlooks overhanging the sea. If you want, to go up 265 steps, you can also visit the impressive campanile (bell tower) and enjoy the cityscape from a height of 50 metres.
