Roman Amphiteater of Teramo[edit]

What survives of the ancient structure is can be found near the Roman Theater ans is located in Via S. Berardo. The most visible part of the bricked perimetral wall can be seen to the Cathedral's left.

The original plan for this structure foresaw an elliptical shape with a 208m perimeter. Along the perimeter the various accesses that led to the inside of the streucture and some other entrances that led directly to the bleachers for the public.

During the Middle age the Roman Amphitheater as well as the Roman Theater were used as quarry for costruction materials necessasry for the nearby structures, it was used as a material quarry for the construction of various neighboring buildings, in particular the Cathedral built in the XII century on the area occupied by the north-western part of the amphitheater itself. On the right external wall of the Cathedral and on some internal walls, one can observe sculpted stones removed from the amphitheater put back in place. In the perimeter where the amphitheater once stood, the building of the Aprutino seminary now stands, destroyed and rebuilt from the bishop Pirelli.
